So I do this thing
where I always ask my son and daughter, “So you know I love you, right?”
To which they always respond with varying degrees of annoyance, “Yes, Daddy.”
To which I always respond with a consistent degree of seriousness, “How do you know?”
To which they always respond with varying degrees plus one of annoyance, “Because you tell us all the time.”
Until my daughter changed things up, and just answered, “Because I can tell.”
Because I can tell.
My god.
I remember not being able to tell if I had that love as a kid. And if there is anything I strive for as a parent, above all other things, I just want my children to never wonder that ever.
Because, in the end, I believe that’s all a kid really wants.
Hell, it’s all a person of any age really wants.
