A semifinal word on the scenes from Find the Starlight

Think of a movie trailer for a movie you have never seen and know nothing about.

The music plays, and scenes flash:

A man walks through a desert.

A girl hides in a tree.

A door in the darkness closes.

A father hugs his son.

A man draws a card at a table.

A man smiles at a frightened woman on a subway.

A child hides behind a door.

A voice says, “All the magic I have known…”

A man leans against a light post.

A voice finishes, “…I’ve had to make myself.”

A man screams in terror.

You have no idea what is going on in the trailer. It’s just short clips. It’s just enough to begin to show you how things are going to be.

So it is with the scenes in Chapter One.

So it is with all things in the story right now.

Things are bumpy. The narrative jumps around, and changes as the traits of the character being described bleed into it. Simon’s story is jumbled and confused. Ellie’s story is visual and fractured. 

M’s story is slow and calculated and cautious.

And so on.

This is the path of the story in this Chapter, and I hope you enjoy it enough to overcome the frustration that comes with trying things that are unfamiliar to us.

By that I mean both this story and the way it is being told.
