The doctors told him everything would be fine.
“This body just failed. All bodies fail.”
Six months. That’s when this one would fail.
“But I leave with this body,” he wept.
“But your memories get transferred. Your clone will wake up and remember everything you do right now. Even this conversation. And you will have a new body. One that won’t fail for years to come.”
“But I don’t get to make new memories. He will be me, but I have to leave.”
“We’re sorry.”
“Everyone else gets to pretend this didn’t happen but me.”
“Yes.
We’re sorry.
You’ll have to leave.”
