Everclear - Santa Monica

This song will always make me think of a sad scared kid with spiky hair, Doc Martens, an army shirt, chain wallet, and ripped jeans, sitting in his car full of his stuff looking at the ocean wondering how the fuck he’s going to fit anywhere or with anyone after fleeing from a household run by a man who constantly tried to kill him a little at a time with fists and words, to live alone at 19 and try find some fucking way to heal.

I still go to that spot all the time, where my real father took me before he vanished. Where I feel like I’m punching the clock and measuring my growth. I’m still that kid in a lot of ways, but I sure beat the hell out of some odds between then and now.

That’s what this song makes me think about. And palm trees.
